Best Practice-01: Holistic Morning Assembly

Title: Morning Assembly – A Holistic Approach to All-Round Development

  • Objectives:
  • Promote social well-being through interreligious prayer.
    • Enhance cognitive abilities with engaging questions.
    • Expand vocabulary by introducing and defining five new words.
    • Stimulate higher-level thinking through thought-provoking videos.
    • Inculcate inner peace with meditation and Chanting of Omkar.
    • Nurture patriotism through the chorus singing of the National Anthem.

Context: The morning assembly at Sri Sarvajna College of Education is a pivotal part of student life, designed to integrate various educational and developmental aspects. This practice distinguishes itself by combining interreligious prayer, news reading, general knowledge questions, vocabulary building, screening of inspirational videos, meditation, and the National
Anthem.

Practice: While morning assemblies are common in teacher education institutions, The institution elevates this routine into a multidimensional learning experience. The Student Activity Center (SAC) committee plans a detailed schedule for each day’s assembly by assigning roles to student teachers. Their preparation is closely observed and monitored under the guidance of the incharge SAC member and staff advisor inorder to ensure multifaceted and
effective assembly.

Evidence of Success: The morning assembly has successfully achieved its objectives, enhancing and ensuring student confidence, general knowledge, and language skills. Activities such as prayer and meditation have improved concentration and reduced distractions. Its impact is distinctly promising in shaping the students with desirable behaviours and incidentally aiding in
preparation for competitive exams like CTET, TET, and other examinations.

Best Practice-02: Community Living Camp (CLC) – Multifaceted Activity
Title : Community Living Camp- “Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam”- “The World is One Family”- Theme of 2023.

Objectives:

  • Develop leadership skills through assigned duties and responsibilities.
  • Enhancing environmental awareness by analyzing human effects and mitigation strategies.
  • Foster teamwork among student-teachers through cooperative and collaborative activities.
  • Provide visual learning experiences for sustainable living through mindfulness, nature walks, and yoga.
  • Help and direct student teachers to organise street plays and awareness programme in the local community.

Context: Bangalore University regulations, stipulates three-day Community Living Camp as a part of the curriculum for all the student- teachers. But the institution enhanced its effectiveness
by integrating vibrant activities, which are essential for the all round development of the student teachers. It provides an opportunity to explore and adapt community living with minimum facilities in the rural setting, fostering an understanding of local environment.

Practice: The Community Living Camp includes diverse activities such as lectures from local scholars, street plays on relevant issues, cultural and sports events, yoga sessions, and health
programs. Student teachers also visit a nearby special school for visually impaired children and visit Janapadaloka to explore cultural and educational transformations in Karnataka, alongside
a hectic camp schedule.

Evidence of Success: The camp enhances physical activity, outdoor recreation, healthy living, and contributing to overall wellbeing. It provides practical experiences that complement
theoretical knowledge, emphasising teamwork, leadership, and community engagement. Additionally, students gain insights into environmental issues and sustainable practices, reflecting on human impacts on natural resources and learning strategies to protect the environment.
